There are two aspects that stand out most to me. Firstly, a communal approach magnifies the effort. Secondly and probably more important is that group work, in a sense, “baits” the ego. The ego wants and needs to be right. During self study, there are no other perspectives to consider aside from the author and whether the teaching aligns with the student and ego. In a group we have many different perspectives, life experiences etc., that the ego can find as competing. One of the benefits of a group is drawing out the ego when it wants to debate rather than discuss. Through this we are able to recognise the opportunity for correction when this occurs.
Surrender and trust in the Creator. Understanding that everything that is, is all that there is and is happening as it is intended. Working with a group of others on the path.
The previous courses have provide a deeper and more meaningful connection to the theory in order to begin implementing the practices in my daily life. I am looking to continue that and look forward to the influence working as a community will have.
There was a feeling during both that I could only describe as similar to the transcendental calm of meditation. I think this was stronger during the Hebrew as when listening in English, I felt like my mind at times was bouncing between listening and affirming my intent.
Ultimately for me it is about being of service to others. By doing so I am still serving myself and receive benefit from it in the sense that my true self is the one that existed before the original creature fractured. By serving others I am serving and working towards the goal of the ultimate reunification.
